Regular Divisions Back Chasing Championship at Autodrome Granby on Sept 4 – DTD Exclusive

With the regular season, if we can call it that with the pandemic, winding down the points battle gets even more critical in the next two races at the Autodrome Granby.

This Friday, September 4, may be do or die for some in the championship hunt as the regular class is all back in action. The Mods and Pro Stocks are once again back on the ½-mile oval. Also on this night will be the Sportsman Modifieds and Sport Compact.

One of the fiercest battles this season has been in the Sportsman division between Moise Page and Even Racine. These two drivers have put on a spectacular show of driving abilities each and every week. Unfortunately, Mosie lost some considerable ground during the last race, which was a grueling 100 laps. With 24 laps to go and running in third place, just behind Even Racine in second place, the number 66 car slowed going down the back straight due to a broken set of rear-end gears. Even Racine who ran a brilliant race went on to win his sixth race of the season at the big track. As for Moise, he would finish 14th.

The battle for the Modified championship has also been close. Francois Bernier has shown that he is the man to beat with five wins under his belt. But if David Herbert has anything to say is that the season is not over until the last lap of the year.

With two races remaining, Herbert is still within striking distance with only 43 points separating the two front runners. It’s not a done deal yet for Bernier, especially with the bonus points to be added on the final race of the regular season. Anyone of the top five is really still in the game if you included the possible bonus points.

The Sport Compact division is also having a close battle of its own for this year’s championship. The No. 49 of Alexis Charbonneau and #0 of Mathieu Voghell have both had two wins along with several top-three finishes. Its anyone’s year to win between Charbonneau and Voghell as these two racers have shown their talent within the Sport Compact division. But don’t count out Danick Sylvestre in the No. 9 or the No. 83 of Sebastien R. Beauregard. These two have had numerous podium finishes and are clearly in the hunt for a top-three finish to the season.

The Pro Stocks are back in action on September 4. Pascal Payeur in the 338 car and Yves Hamel in the No. 194 car will be back battling for this year’s championship as these two drivers have had a close battle all season. Payer has definitely shown that he is the man to beat and if things go as smoothly this Friday as in past weeks, he will be hard to stop for the championship.

The next two weeks will be exciting for all the regular classes at the Autodrome Granby as no champion has been crowned in any of the classes. With the racing being as close as it has been this season, it will be a nail-biter finish in all divisions at this historic track.
