August 19 - Final for the Cure Sportsman series La version française ici The final round of the Race for Cure Sportsman series will begin on Sunday August 19 and culminate in the crowning of this year's series champion. Local businessman Steve Morris, owner of Embrun Auto Value, created this series to raise awareness about cancer and the struggles sufferers must overcome to beat the disease. Steve dedicated this series to the memory of his sister, Kelly Morris, who died of breast cancer. Photo credit: Don SimpsonThis is the third year of the Race For Cure Sportsman series, but this year's organizers also entered Race For Cure 150 for 358 edits, which was a great success.
Morris pitched the idea to Cornwall Motor Speedway promoter Raymond Lavergne during the winter of 2015. From the start, Lavergne had the idea to take part. The Lavergne family was touched by the cause and Raymond invested some profits from the track. “This year, Cornwall Speedway raised over $7,000 for this worthy cause,” explained Raymond. “Steve approached me in early 2015 with his idea and I was committed to helping his cause. It has been very successful so far and I'm sure it will continue to grow in the years to come” , he explained. Photo credit: Don SimpsonThis year, the Race for Cure Foundation is currently working closely with a cancer specialist from Cornwall General Hospital, which will help two beneficiaries. The Foundation, run by Steve and his wife who donate their time, works closely with the hospital to help patients who are suffering physical and financial hardship as a result of their illness. Once the recipients are chosen, the Foundation will grant the necessary funds to help with the physical and financial well-being of the patients, which Steve knows well after witnessing the difficulties his sister experienced during her battle with cancer. Sunday August 19 will be the finale of the Race For Cure race. With $2,000 up for grabs and $8,500 in the series points fund. The 100-lap final event on August 17 will attract many of the North East's top Sportsman riders to win the prize. On this Sunday, the ten best current drivers in points:
