Max McLaughlin - The future on clay. After being introduced to Karting by a friend of his, Max started performing at Millbridge Speedway in the Box Stock class. Within two years, Max was the winner of the 2013 East Coast Nationals and regional winner of the Mini Outlaw. He also won the 125cc championship title at Millbridge Speedway. In 2014, he evolved with the UMP Modifié in Mooresville (NC). Car owner Nick Hoffman, Mike McLaughlin and Max campaigned with Hoffman's team throughout the 2014 racing season. They also supported Max's Mini Outlaw kart at Millbridge Speedway. It was a learning experience going from a 450lb Outlaw Kart to a full-size race car. This season, Max managed to obtain three 5th places out of 13 Modified races. He also finished 8th in Night 2 of the King of the Carolinas, one of the most prestigious races in the South. He also reportedly finished 2nd in the Millbridge Speedway standings with four wins during the year. It was a transition year for Max who pointed out that “If it hadn't been for the Hoffman family allowing us to use their second car, it would have been impossible for us to race a Modified due to the high costs.” The 2015 season was the breakthrough year for Max, scoring a double once again, driving the Outlaw Mini Sprint race car and a Modified UMP.At the start of the season, Max got his first victory with a Modified in March, followed by victory at "King of the Caroline's" at Carolina Speedway in October. Photo credit: Web imagesPeople took notice of Max's undeniable talent as well as the Heinke-Baldwin Racing (HBR Racing) team. It wasn't long before HBR Racing sent Max to Weedsport. Unfortunately, earlier in the year this race was canceled due to rain. In November at the World Finals in Charlotte, North Carolina, HBR Racing invited Max to race one of their cars. He jumped at the chance, earning him pole position in the Super DIRTcar series, becoming the youngest driver in Super DIRTcar's 44-year history to win the "Fast Time Award." . Max ended the week with a 20th place. It was a success for this 15-year-old rider in a Modified Big Block. For 2016, Max has signed with Heinke-Baldwin Racing to drive car #6 in the Super DIRTcarr series. Mike McLaughlin has set achievable goals with him and the HBR team. It was a learning year for Max, he achieved many of the goals set by Mike to earn himself and the team the 2016 Rookie of the Year award.
