The making of a champion

Shane Pecore - The Achievement of a Champion In the bustling little town of St. Andrews, Ontario, Marcel Pecore runs a single service center called St. Andrews Service Center. It's also the home of Sportsman DIRTcar champion Shane Pecore, Marcel's son, who works in the garage alongside his father. 23-year-old Shane started his journey in go-karts at a young age. During the summer season, Shane and his father would go to Can Am or Brockville to race their karts. At the time, Cornwall did not have a go-kart track. Once the summer races were over, they then turned to the indoor racing circuit, primarily in the United States in Syracuse, New York, and as far away as Harrisburg, Pennsylvania for Motorama's annual race weekend. Shane has spent many years honing his skills on the kart circuit, winning many races. At the age of 13, Shane had other ambitions than learning karts, he wanted to race in the highly competitive Sportsman DIRTcar class. In 2007, father and son bought their first sports car. Shane won Sportsman DIRTcar Rookie of the Year that same year. In 2009, Shane came second in the championship at Brockville Ontario Speedway. It was also the first year he competed in the Sportsman DIRTcar series to earn an 8th place finish. In 2010, Shane raced for the title at three local tracks, Can Am Speedway (ranking third), Cornwall Motor Speedway (fourth) and Brockville Ontario Speedway (ranking fifth in points). L'
The 2011 season was quite successful and provided him with a great learning experience, finishing 12th in DIRTcar Championship points and finishing with a solid second place in points at Cornwall Motor Speedway and with a 3rd place finish at Brockville Speedway . Photo credit: Don SimpsonShane drove a Modified 358 for Warrior Racing at Mohawk International Speedway in 2012, but was back in a Sportsman for 2013 and earned his first championship at Brockville Ontario Speedway. He would retain his title in 2014, with a second-place finish in the DIRTcar Series championship points, missing out on the prestigious title by one point. Shane had four more wins in 2015 and finished second in points at Mohawk International Speedway. But 2016 was the culmination of all those years of hard work. This small team of father Marcel, mother Cindy and girlfriend Chelsea overtook some of the biggest teams in the sport to win the Sportsman DIRTcar Series Championship in 2016. Photo credit: Don SimpsonIn the same year, Shane Pecore also won track championships in Cornwall and Brockville. He also brought home the sero title "Race for the Cure" at Cornwall Motor Speedway. A remarkable season. By tackling one race at a time, with his consistency and hard work, Shane managed to gain recognition in this racing environment. Working on the car during the week, thus preparing for the race event of the weekend, he says: “It allowed me to concentrate only on driving the car. Yes, luck was on our side and we didn't suffer major troubles on the car like in previous years. It was in 2016 that for us things got back to normal. " L' Photo credit: Don SimpsonFor 2017, Shane will continue his strategy under the sign of consistency. Again, the team will race weekly in Brockville and Cornwall, and also plan to race in the DIRTcar series. I'm confident we'll see Shane and the team in the winner's circle this summer.
