The DIRTcar champions have been crowned at Fall Nationals!
La version française ici The 2017 edition of the Fall Nationals 1000 Islands RV is in the record books. The event was one of the best as the crowd was at maximum capacity on both days. More than 200 cars made the trip to the famous Bull Ring to put on quite a show for the fans. The action kicked off on Friday night with the Super DIRTcar serieswho was going to face off on the famous 3/8 mile oval with Billy Decker who won his 4th victory of the season. Decker who raced flawlessly fending off charges from Jimmy Phelps who briefly led the race until Decker passed Phelps on the inside to take the lead and Decker never looked back. Phelps along with Matt Sheppard and local driver Ryan Arbuthnot fought for second and third place throughout the 100 lap finale. #91 Billy Decker winner of the Big Block Modified final. The DIRTcar Sportsman series , which was dominated by local driver Dylan Evoy, was also in action on Friday evening. Dylan dominates the 31-car field after taking the lead from Kyle Inman on lap 15 and he takes the win without a hitch. Dave Marcucilli, who made the long drive to the Fall Nationals, finished in twelfth place and he racked up enough points to win the 2017 DIRTcar Sportsman Series Championship. #83 Dylan Evoy winner of the Sportsman final. Photo credit: Don SimpsonOn Saturday evening, the ESS 360 Sprint cars were in attendance as well as the DIRTcar 358 series. races. The Sprints 360 were the first to go for their finals with 16 cars taking the green flag as Jeff Cook in the #10 car took the lead fairly early. Jason Barney in the #87 followed closely by Mike Mahaney in the #33 chased Cook and the two finally passed him on lap 11 as Cook veered wide into curves one and two. Barney managed to maintain a small lead over car #33 until victory. The Modified 358began their finals as a light rain fell. The green is given with a field of 30 cars and it is Erick Rudolph in #25 who takes the lead. For the next 85 laps, a very tight battle between Rudolph and Luke Whitteker in the #38 and Dale Planck in the #7mx car. Lap after lap, the three riders competed as Mike Maresca in the #M7 joins them creating a four-way battle for first place. With only 15 laps to go, Rudolph's #25 car crashed into curve #4, relegating the lead to Maresca in #M7, followed by Luke in #38, Dale Planck and David Hébert in the #ONE. With just 5 laps remaining, Whitteker and Planck passed Maresca on the inside followed by David Hebert to take the checkered flag.
