Mohawk International Raceway Adds Super Stock Class to its 2020 Line-Up – DTD Exclusve

By DON SIMPSON

With the news of Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway is up for sale, the Super Stock teams that ran there have been scrambling to find a new track to run in 2020.

Track owner John Lazore has confirmed that the Super Stock class will have a new home at Mohawk International Raceway next season.

It was the hard work of Sportsman driver Chris Frennier who initiated the talks with the team at Mohawk International Raceway, producing the addition of the Super Stock Class at MIR.

Chris explains. “As for being the spokesperson, I just reached out to John Lazore and expressed to him that the Super Stock class would be a great addition to their track and, with the future of Airborne still up in the air, I wanted to try and get them a secure place to race for 2020.

Chris went on to explain. “I think the Super Stocks are very competitive with great diversity and any driver can win on any night. With three-wide racing in this division, the class will produce some incredible racing — a great benefit for drivers, fans and the track. I will also sponsor the #44 of Tylor Terry through Chris Frennier Motorsports.”

Chris has also confirmed that he will race at Mohawk in the 358 division, a new challenge for this racing spokesman.

Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway Super Stock Champion Shawn Duquette is all in and will make the long haul each week to Mohawk in 2020.

Shawn said, “I traveled up to Mohawk a few times last season. The entire facility was great along with track conditions. I like to run a dry, slick track, which Mohawk provides, so this will fit great into our racing program. “

Shawn went onto say, “Our team, along with all the other teams who ran at Airborne, were eager to find somewhere to run. John Lazore stepping up to the plate to host the Super Stock class at Mohawk next season was great news for many. We are very excited to get the opportunity to race at Mohawk and look forward to getting the season underway.“

Jim Mckiernan has also confirmed his team will make the long drive to Mohawk International Raceway, but not weekly due to work. “I am two hours 20 min away from the track, but I will run four or five events this coming season and possibly more if work permits,” explained Jim.

John Lazore, owner and operator of Mohawk International Raceway, is ecstatic with the addition of the Super Stock class, not to mention the other teams from the Sportsman and Modified divisions.

“It’s great to have the Super Stocks come on board next season and Status Design Shop will sponsor the class,” mentioned John. “We had to delay our decision.  The possibility of over 40 or even 50 cars in just the Sportsman class, and having two features as they do at Fulton, and now adding the Super Stocks to the weekly show, we had to make a decision on the pit area.”

John went on to state, “With the added class and teams expected in 2020, the pit area will be reworked in the spring to accommodate the extra racers.”

The 2020 season is already shaping up to be a busy year and there are more exciting announcements coming in the New Year regarding the 2020 season of racing. Stay tuned.
